Tips for Cleaning Car Windows Without Streaks

Cleaning windows is an aesthetic improvement and a critical necessity. If your windows and windshield are dirty, you will not have a clear vision of the road ahead. Cleaning windows might seem easy but sometimes following wrong methods leaves streaks on windows. Here we have discussed a few tips to clean car windows without streaks.

Things You Will Need

  • Glass Cleaner

  • Lint-free microfiber rags

  • Rubbing alcohol

  • Vinegar

  • Empty Spray bottle

Cleaning Steps

The Solution:

Prepare a solution by taking equal amounts of alcohol and water and add a capful of vinegar to the solution. You can also take 70% water, 15% window cleaner and 15% alcohol. You need to use auto-specific glass cleaner and avoid using ammonia-based cleaners as they can damage vinyl, leather, and tint. Pour the solution in the spray bottle.

Cleaning Process:

  • Gather other materials like a lint-free microfiber rag and a spray bottle filled with cleaning solution. Hop in the passenger seat for easy access to the windshield glass. Wipe the windshield with a dry microfiber rag. You need to wipe down from the top of the windshield and then move towards the bottom.

  • Take rubbing alcohol and a different rag to degrease the glass. If you live in a coastal area, you can clean the windshield and windows with vinegar to dissolve sea salt.

  • You can take a different rag or use another side of rag and spray glass cleaner on the rag. You should not spray the cleaning solution directly on the windshield. Clean the glass and windshield in circular motions.

  • Swap the rags as soon as they get dirty.

  • Wipe the windshield and windows in up and down wiping motion and make sure the windows and windshield are completely dry before you call off the cleaning process.

Tips for Streak Free Windows Cleaning

  • You should wipe the windows and windshield last while cleaning the exterior and interior of the car. This is important because dust settles down easily on the windows and windshield and is more visible

  • Avoid cleaning the windows and windshield under the sun. Always park the car in the shade when cleaning windows. This will prevent the evaporation of the cleaning solution faster which generally leaves streaks behind. Cleaning the windows when the temperature is cool also gives you more time for cleaning the windows without worrying about cleaning solution drying up on the windows.

  • The rags you use for cleaning the windshield and windows should not be used to clean other parts of the car. This is important because dirt particles trapped in micro-fibers can cause scratches while cleaning windows.

  • You should use good soft quality microfiber rags to clean the windows and the windshield. A soft microfiber cloth will not leave any scratch marks nor tint the film material used on windows.

Cleaning Water Spots

Sometimes minor water spots contamination occurs after cleaning the windows and windshield. These dirty water sports can ruin the shiny look of the windows and windshield. Use a good glass cleaner to clean these water spots regularly.
